SXSW Day 1 (mostly driving)

Somehow it turned out that we had a Coat Party show scheduled for last night. This didn't really click until about Friday. In, short, this morning I was a very tired person. I left the Tap Room about 1 and then slept until roughly 4:30, when it was time to get up and at 'em to be ready to leave at 5 am. Thank god one of the driving days is over, and I shouldn't even be complaining because I didn't even have to drive. Nick's car is stick-shift. Therefore, I was left to squeezing into the small confines of the back seat of the two door vehicle. The highlight of the drive, if you could call it that, would have to be stopping at a cheap little diner right after we got into Texas. Not to mention the cutest, tiniest, oldest dog ever who was hanging out right outside. Did I mention that the air conditioning in Nick's car doesn't work? This left me a little wind blown.

When we finally arrived in Austin after about 13 hours, the first thing we did was head over to the Convention Center to check in. Everyone in this area looked amusingly as if they were going to attend SXSW--a little fashionable, a little douche-baggy and self-important. To our great surprise, by some mistake KJHK had actually purchased badges instead of the simple wristbands we thought we were getting. This is pretty fucking sweet, because now we can go anywhere the hell we want to, there's no denying us. Mine has a pretty stupid looking photo of me on it but whatever. We then proceeded to walk around downtown a bit in a group to get adjusted to the area (read: so I could get adjusted to the area). It was a little crazy out because it's St. Patrick's Day. I saw the Beauty Bar, Emo's and some other places. I still really don't know where anything is, but I'll figure it out. I got a veggie dog at a hot dog stand for dinner. It's probably the best veggie dog I've ever had. Then we walked over to Ms. Bea's to check out a show that was actually going on. I hadn't heard of most of the bands before, but White Denim was pretty cool. I'm just thinking that if Ms. Bea's was that much fun when I didn't even know who the hell any of the band were, it's gonna be fucking rad when there are bands I'm dying to see there. Also: Ms. Bea's pretty much doesn't card. Not that this matters. Dear god I need to go to sleep now. Check out the flickr for some photos of nothing really. Love you all and wish I was simultaneously hanging out in Lawrence.

today my boss asked me what the robots that they fly around and trip with wires in Star Wars are:

my unconscious incredibly educated childhood mind came up with dog walkers

i think i actually called them this when i was a kid, bc the robot looks like a freakin' dog

note: they are actually called A.T. walkers, but, you probably already knew that

also, some good news--i think i pretty much have to take one class next semester. one of the advantages of graduating late, i guess
